Bathing suit shopping isn’t usually high on the list of “fun things to do.” Yes, we’ve come a long way from the long-sleeved woolen bathrobes women wore, but it’s still hard to find a suit that’s both stylish and supportive. The founders of The most stylisha body-sculpting swimwear line, seeks to change all that.
The brand was founded by fashion industry veterans Alia Yahia-Bosworth, Joyann King Michael and Chrissy McCurdy. “We joke that we’re three fashion addicts who walked into a pool party and walked out with a business plan,” King says. At the pool party in question, McCurdy wore a bra under her bathing suit — a style trick she’d been doing for more than 10 years. (First of all, genius.) “In the middle of the party, Alia and I overheard someone telling Chrissy that her bra was showing, and it stopped us in the middle of the conversation. a light bulb moment for us: how does a swim bra not exist?”
This moment led them to develop Aqualingerie, a collection of supportive swimwear, but they didn’t stop there. “Women don’t have time to buy a swimsuit and then shop elsewhere for coverage that completes the look,” King Michael said. “They need a plan, not pieces, to make them feel completely stylish.”
Thus, the Stylest Swimming System was born. “TThe system will work hard for you if you allow it,” said Yahia-Bosworth. “Aqualingerie defines your base, then you add a sculpting swimsuit that matches your personal style and choose coverage that meets your lifestyle needs.” These are divided into three easy-to-navigate categories: Sculpt, Swim, and Style. People can try on their swimwear at home for seven days before committing to purchase, and they only pay for what they keep.
A.k.a Aqualingerie. These are the supportive pieces designed to be worn under your bathing suit and include a six-way convertible bra, high-waisted smoothing panties and a sculpting bodysuit. “These styles are the innovation that gives you the freedom to create your dream swim look without worrying about support or shaping issues,” McCurdy said.
PS: bras are not reserved for women with generous breasts. “Our B and C cups nearly sold out on our first run because these women want the shape and fullness that the bra gives them.” said Yahia-Bosworth.
The sculpting swimsuits is designed to be worn over the Aqualingerie, and they have taken the time and care to achieve the perfect fit and feel. “We’ve tried it on so many women of different shapes and sizes to make sure it lives up to our body-boosting promise,” King Michael said.
The fabric is “woven to deliver body-sculpting compression without the sausage feel,” says McCurdy. “It’s designed for water and provides the most luxurious hand feel that feels like lotion. It gives you that comfy, supportive feel you love from your favorite leggings, but in a swimsuit.
These are the final touches: sarongs, bathing cardigans and headbands. Yahia-Bosworth is particularly fond of the easy to tie sarong ($98). “It dries as fast as your bathing suit and can be styled so many different ways,” she says. “It’s the mainstay of my kiddie pool.”
The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. The brand recently hosted its first pop-up store in Charleston, SC, and it was a sell-out hit. “We weren’t sure what to expect because women and their bodies in swimsuits are very personal,” says King Michael. “They kept saying buying a swimsuit didn’t have never been so fun and reassuring, and they loved it. the collection offers all the look they want. Most of them came away with a full swim system and were spotted the next day at the pool showing off their new looks.”
