I’m not one to lie on the beach – swimming, surfing and sand sports are more my speed. The only problem? It’s hard to find a swimsuit designed to withstand these summer pastimes.
So far, that is. Enter Girlfriend Collective’s new swimwear line, which offers a range of simple, elegant and (perhaps most importantly) supportive swimwear.
Here’s why this brand’s swimsuits are the best swimsuits I’ve ever worn, especially when it comes to water activities.
There are many cute costumes out there, and Girlfriend Collective swimsuits are no exception. The brand’s range of bikinis and one-pieces come in a variety of cuts and colors, including scoop neck, triangle and one-shoulder bikini tops; cheeky, mid-rise and high-waisted bottoms and one-shoulder V-neck bodysuits.
And it is indeed the case. I put this suit through its paces swimming, surfing, and running in the sand. The top feels like a sports bra – comfortable, yet supportive enough that there isn’t much bouncing during movement.
It’s made of regenerated nylon (more on that later) and spandex with thick straps and an elasticated bust line, which provides the medium impact support advertised. The top is also lined and includes removable cups so you can count on full coverage and comfort.
As well as providing noticeable support, the Marina top – thankfully – stayed where it was supposed to. Whether I was running, swimming or getting bombarded by ocean waves, the top stayed in place.
The bottoms were no different. Also made of regenerated nylon and spandex, they were both stretchy and supportive, making it easy to move around without worrying about the bikini moving with me.
Even better, the bikini resists washing. I’ve purchased countless seemingly supportive suits, only to find them stretched out after a few wash cycles. Girlfriend Collective swimsuits, on the other hand, have always returned to their original shape and feel to provide long-lasting coverage and support.
Not only does Girlfriend Collective support your body, it also supports your skin: the swimsuit is UPF 50+ rated, which means it protects covered skin against 98% of harmful UVB and UVA rays, according to the skin cancer foundation.
While that doesn’t mean you should ignore sunscreen (wearing safe sunscreen is one of the best lines of defense against sun exposure), wearing sun-protective clothing does provide a layer. additional protection against incoming rays.
The brand is sustainable and inclusive
These sports suits are also designed with respect for the environment. On the one hand, they are made of 78% ECONYL® regenerated nylon, a type of recycled fabric made from nylon waste such as fishing nets, fabric scraps and industrial plastic that could have ended up in the ocean or in a landfill.
Girlfriend Collective even gives you a breakdown of the durability of your purchase. Top Marina, for example, reported:
- 0.99oz. preserved oil
- 0.30 lbs of CO2 avoided
- 0.63 KWH (kilowatt hours) of energy saved
The brand also offers sizes ranging from XS to 6XL, which are more inclusive sizes than comparable brands.
If you’re looking for long-lasting fun in the sun, Girlfriend Collective swimwear is here for you. Just choose your favorite style and colors and hit the beach!
