When it comes to tropical vacations, finding the right swimsuit is at the heart of any getaway.
As we all want to travel light, Berlin-based brand JANTHEE Berlin was born to create versatile, adjustable pieces that can be worn in eight different styles.
The brand puts a heavy emphasis on quality materials and is praised for its “second-skin fit”, earning the stamp of approval from multiple A-listers such as Kendall Jenner, Hailey Bieber and more.
For more on the early days of the swimwear brand, Emirates woman spoke to Linda Hausser about how she created innovative pieces that customers are bookmarking ahead of summer.
What does the first 30 minutes of your day look like, your morning routine?
It completely differs from day to day, however, I try to wake up as early as possible to maximize productivity. As I am an early riser, I wake up and go to the gym immediately, because I like to start my days with an effective workout. I then enjoy a cup of decaffeinated coffee and start with my emails, because I like to plan everything in advance, so my team can keep their day running smoothly.
What inspired you to create JANTHEE Berlin?
I think my adventurous soul is what motivated me the most. When I was 18 I was traveling the world, seeing what was out there and realizing there was a gap in the European swimwear market that needed to be filled. As a swimwear enthusiast, I couldn’t find what I was looking for every time I went on summer vacation. Like me, many others felt the same way and I thought this was the perfect opportunity to test the waters and here we are today.
How has the brand evolved and what is its DNA?
I launched the brand in 2016 and it has evolved enormously since then. It’s been almost six years of continuous learning, as we try to perfect our products in both portability and awareness. Since we launched and I have become more aware of the market, the focus has shifted to sustainability and fair production. That’s why it was important for me to take advantage of a European supply chain. All of our materials are sourced from the EU and our suppliers are certified to ensure they are paid fairly and in good working conditions. As our DNA champions versatility and durable pieces, we want to be recognized as the brand that sells high-end bikinis that appeal to everyone.
Some pieces can be worn eight ways. Was versatility a key from the start?
Yes indeed. When I started I was on a tight budget and was my own client. This meant that at a young age I couldn’t afford mass shopping. So I always chose simple and timeless pieces that I knew could be worn on different occasions in so many ways. I wanted people to have bikinis that were high end and effective, but still affordable. Many bikinis can be worn by the pool and for a night out, making them a must-have for any client.
What makes JANTHEE Berlin unique compared to the range of offers that already exist on the market?
I would say that even though there are many swimwear brands on the market, I think the relationship between quality and price varies greatly. At JANTHEE, you get a unique piece that you will not have seen anywhere else. We are also very proud to be able to say that we have something that few or no brands have yet achieved in the market, namely the combination of timeless pieces, fair fashion, quality and durability. We know that around 90% of our competitors are still producing in China for low rates and large quantities, that’s not what we’re aiming for and that’s probably why since we entered the market we’ve been winning growing consumer confidence.
The materials you use are resistant to chlorine and salt water. How difficult was it to integrate?
It’s interesting because the challenge was not to find these details on fabrics and accessories, but to find the right partner who would be ready to embrace this project with me. I wasn’t just looking for a production space, I wanted someone who would share my vision, believe in my goals, and work alongside me through the challenges that come with launching and creating a completely new. From the start the goal was to create durable pieces that you could wear in the pool or the sea and we needed someone with both the skills and the understanding as we didn’t want to be just a brand. more on the market. .
Which styles drive sales season after season?
Our bestsellers are definitely the ones you can use in multiple ways because they are unique, and you don’t really find them anywhere else. For the next collection, coming out later this year, we’re stepping up the game and combining colors in reversible styles, so you can buy a set and have two different shades at once.
This is the Summer Escape issue – where would you like to escape this summer?
Usually I’m a fan of Mykonos where there’s a good balance between lazing around and partying, as I love the azure blue waters. However, as I have already traveled quite a bit, I look forward to spending time in Athens, as it is the perfect mix of beach clubs and peaceful places. I plan to rent a boat and spend most of my time by the ocean. At the end of the summer, I’m definitely going to my home country, Thailand, to spend quality time with my family. Since COVID, I haven’t had the opportunity to spend much time with them, so we’re taking some time to reset and prepare for the next season.
