Quality fabrics, durability, style and swimwear that looks great and stay put! As we look forward to summer trips and water activities, what are the best tips for finding the perfect fit? From choosing a suit for surfing the internet or surfing the waves, I’ve got some advice from fashion and swimming experts. Here are five tips for finding the perfect swimsuit for this summer season.
1) Ability to adjust
professional surfer Tia Blanco says, “Look for adjustable bikini tops and bottoms. I like to cinch the bikini so it fits snugly while I’m surfing. You can always loosen them afterwards for optimal comfort. Ambassador JOLYN Surf adds: “You also want to make sure there are no beads or other ties on the bikini top so it doesn’t hurt me when laying on my surfboard. surfing (it’s the worst!).” JOLYN has just launched its first line made for the waves, discover the JOLYN Surf collection here.
2) Keep the girls safe
If you have a fuller chest, look for thicker straps for better support. “Tops that provide support are a big factor in finding the perfect fitting swimsuit. Palm’s Flavia bikini top features underwired balconette-style cups and pleated details that are not only safe, but also stylish,” said April Koza, Vice President of FWRD.
3) Put the “Fab” in the fabric
Some fabrics have less stretch than others and will fit more tightly, such as 100% polyester. Influencer Ashley Torres shares that it’s worth splurging when choosing the perfect costume. “It’s all about manufacturing; finding the right balance of thickness (i.e. support) that also has enough “give” so you don’t get stuck in the wrong places. Quality fabrics and suits are more expensive, but 100% worth it when you put them on and feel amazing! Here is a piece from the line she designed with L*Space:
4) Sun protection and durability
Co-founder of Textured waves Danielle Black Lyons shares, “My number one tip is to find a swimsuit that makes you feel beautiful and comfortable. I like ROXY Palm Tree Dreams Long Sleeve One Piece Jumpsuit for its soft recycled material and second-skin cut. It keeps everything in place with a high neck and open back while offering just the right amount of sun protection, style and function. I love how it looks and how it makes me feel!
5) Take the time to try
Because swimsuits are a personal preference based on body type, try on a few different types to find the right fit for you. “Always try on as many styles as possible. Once you find the shape that works best for you, invest in it. My favorite style is the bra bikini. It’s size A-DDD with a supported underwire and an adjustment in the back and neck – almost creating a custom fit,” says Shoshanna Gruss, Founder and Creative Director of Shoshanna.
